The Long
Term Care Advocacy Program also known
as the Ombudsman Program, offers a special service to
institutionalized individuals in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico,
and Worcester Counties. The ombudsman is an advocate for persons
in nursing homes and provides investigation & resolution of
complaints. The ombudsman also mediates disputes, provides
in-service training on topics such as residents' rights,
psycho-social needs, difficult behavior, sexuality,
communication, and dignity, among others.
For older persons or family members who are
contemplating nursing home placement, MAC Incorporated offers
literature with guidelines for choosing a nursing home based on
the older person's specific needs and interests. Persons seeking
information on nursing homes and their performance may examine
deficiency reports and consult with the ombudsman at the office.
